Bye Bye July, Hello August goals!

June and July have been a tough couple of months for me. I've struggled with nutrition and had personal problems weighing over my head all summer. I've been working - I'm exhausted just thinking about it-  hard on a huge project at work, which is all positive now, but there were growing pains at the start. In short, I'm ready to say adieous to summer! Der, vacation is ova- bring on football season! New beginnings always mean great things are coming! August through March (basically all run season) is my time to shine!


August Goals:

  1. Kick Off: Advocare 10 Day Cleanse, you can read about my first experience here- I wanted to start this Wednesday, July 31, however my cleanse and Spark! won't be delivered until Wednesday afternoon. 1st of the month is the best time to star anyway- yeah, take that Fedex! 
  2. Begin running with my marathon training group on Saturday mornings. I can not even express how excited I am to kick back up with group runs. Running with a group = accountability. No one wants to be loud capped on the facebooks cher. It's really cheesy, but the camaraderie built during training makes race day (and the par-tay afterwards) ten times more special. I'd be lost without the group!  My group is training for the Louisiana Marathon in January 2014. I'm following a hybrid plan of my own as I have the New Orleans Jazz Half  (October) and Lafayette's Cajun Cup (10K) (November) on the schedule. However, I will complete my group runs, with my people, on Saturday mornings!
  3. Half Marathon training round two: My goal is to run my 2nd half marathon under 2:05:00. My first half marathon time was 2:09:40. Ideally, I'd like to run the half under 2 hours, however, I was plagued with injuries training for half number one, living on ibuprofen, and I honestly believe it's because I tried to push my speed faster far to quickly.  I do not want to get injured before the Marathon. No bueno. My hometown is hosting it's first ever Marathon & Half this March, The Zydeco Marathon. Without a doubt, I will be participating in this event. For me, everything hinges on the Marathon in January. Should I not run another full come March, this will be my time to shine with a sub 2 half. Gaaahhhh I'm so excited for race time to begin! 
  4. Nutrition. Obviously, with all the running I'll be doing over the coming months, my body will need more carbs to function at this level of activity. I want to focus more of my energy on an overall balanced and nutritious diet. More details to come on this, my take on macros, and what the future is for me there to come shortly!
Day three post vacation in full affect. Let me tell ya, it has been HARD to force my lazy vacation brain back into boss lady business mode. My brain worked overtime this morning to try and keep me in bed, but I powered down the don't wants to complete my 30 minute tempo run. To my immense surprise, this run was easier to complete than the first time I attempted the tempo run a few weeks ago. After about 2 minutes, The Saturday's were blasting away in ear buds, I'm cruising along, my legs are flying out from underneath me, and I think to myself "I feel awesome right now!This is how I should start every single day! Why did I want to stay in bed?!" Running is my therapy. The hardest part really is getting out of the front door.  Ready to beast up on this day!

Paying the Vacation Piper

Back to the real world day one: Phew my first work out post vacation I'm gonna do whatever I want to do- more banana chips? yes please! More champagne? Yes please! More of everything- oh why stop while you're ahead?!  back to reality kicked my butt.

Literally. 

I said out loud in my Monday RIPPED class, "Remind me to never go on vacation again" and lots of Ughhhh. When we got through the last RIPPED section, kick boxing, I flopped on the ground and said "Phew! I survived!" Drama Lama says heyyyyy! The instructor just kept laughing at me. (We're friends so that's ok) My mind is blown over just how fast you can lose strength and endurance, but at the same time, I know how quickly I can build that right back up! Just looking at my last post pre-vacation I'm thinking, What the heck did I do to myself?! For the record- I still think all that eating and drinking was worth it

Time to pay the vacation piper. My next few work outs will tough but I'm going to power through I tell ya! I'm beginning Advocare's 10 Day Cleanse on Wednesday Anyone care to join me?!, and I can't wait! A new month begins on Thursday, summer is coming to a close, it's the perfect time to rejuvenate those goals and power into a new season! I need to feel fit and trim again- ASAP. Busted can of biscuits is a horrible feeling. No bueno and it's got to go!

In other news- I'm so excited to announce the winner of Charly and Company's $50 gift card goes to Kristie over at PG Sisters. Kristie is a full time working Mom who works HARD at her weight loss and fitness. I can not think of someone more deserving of a little extra pampering! Check your email and Congrats Kristie!

I'm exactly 12 weeks out from my 2nd half marathon, which will transition into full marathon training. WHOA. Bring on the new month, because I am so ready for these new and exciting challenges!

Vacation Recap & Weekly Goals

Ahhhhh rested and relaxed- vacation success! I hope ya'll enjoyed last week's favorite series in my absence and that you found a few new favorite bloggers!

I really went for the go with the flow attitude this vacation. I didn't count anything. Not calories, carbs, or how many drinks I'd had each day. I ate too much. I drank too much. I only worked out twice. All that chill-axing time was worth the busted can of biscuits feeling I've got rolling into Monday morning. While every meal was not bad, I did make some good choices, and I made some sinfully delicious not so great choices. I know I'm bloated and I know I can get back to feeling trim and slim in no time flat. However, for the sake of accountability, I sucked up my fear and stepped on the scale this morning. Up 5.8 pounds, and worth every single ounce. Someone had fun at the beach I know I'll get that weight off in no time at all. Refocused and recharged!

Ahh it was fun, but I did miss my routine! It's my personal mission to see how fast I can get those nearly 6 vacation pounds off my frame! Beginning Monday, back to logging food in MFP, every single day.  I've got Advocare's 10 day cleanse on order, swearing off alcohol until I complete the cleanse, and leaping back into half marathon training round two!

Celebrity Body Crushes: Elle Noel Favorite Series


Today marks the last day of my Elle Noel Favorite series, you probably already know my last, but definitely not least, favorite blogger Holly! Let's be real, she probably sent you over here! I love Holly's sense of humor, and outlook on all aspects of life. She seems like the type of person who can find humor in any situation, and those are always my favorite people to be around! Take it away Holly!


Ol Holly here! Elle Noel (I know her name is Leigh Ann, but she is ellenoel, all one word, when I speak of her out loud) asked me to guest post… and I was like HEY GIRL HEY. Really, it’s my pleasure. I’ve been obsessed with Mrs. Noel for a year now. What I like most about her blog and instagram is just how she exudes happiness. I think her before and after pictures are some of the best progression pictures on the internet. And what makes her different from other weight loss bloggers is that she didn’t stop when she met her goal… she kept going.
Today, let’s talk…. Celebrity Body Crushes. I love flipping through a magazine and picking out all of the body parts I would like to trade with some A-lister. Granted, I could have those body parts if I Elle Noel’d it at the gym, but sometimes it’s more fun to be lazy and dream.
I like my big booty… I embrace it. But I wouldn’t mind having trading these parts with these ladies.

Today's Substitute Positive Patty: Elle Noel Favorite Series

Good morning and Happy Thursday! I'm still off frolicking at the beach (sheesh does she ever work!?) but I've lined up an awesome post for ya'll today! This morning I've asked Kate from the Wigdeon Nest to fill in for me.

Kate's blog is one that I do not miss. Ever. Even though we are from opposite sides of the US, I find her story and present place in life incredibly similar to my own. I love her general outlook on life and new ideas on nutrition, all about her family, and balancing all those activities that are real life. My favorite posts are the perspective she provides on all aspects of weight loss and fitness, cause we all know, it ain't just physical!

Side Note- Sometimes when I'm out running and I want to quit, I think to myself, "Kate trained for and ran a half marathon in the sub-artic. If she can do that, you can finish this run!" All about perspective huh??? Take it away Kate!!


Hey there, fellow readers! This is Kate, here, and I'm hoping my little post will be worthy of the "prime time" that is Elle Noel! You have to admit, hers are some pretty big (and fast) shoes to fill: Beast in the gym, gazelle on the course, and overall boss lady when it comes to balancing the many demands of this modern life.

And when Leigh Ann isn't busy kicking butt at life, she's supporting and encouraging us. She's sharing helpful information about fitness and nutrition, organizing community-building events that push us to stick with it, and sharing in our joys and struggles! I know from reading other comments on this blog that I'm not the only one who comes here looking for a daily dose of optimism from our Positive Patty!

So, in an effort to help you get your fix while our girl is away on a much deserved vacay, I decided to get my happy thoughts flowing and post about some of the most positive moments I've had in my own weight-loss journey!


After I posted a transformation picture on my Instagram, my cousin told me that I had inspired her to start running. She also got my other cousin's wife to do the C25K program with her! Not only am I so excited to watch my cousins' transformations, but I loved being called an inspiration. Is there any better form of validation?

The day I purchased a pair of size 12 jeans after almost a decade of size 16 and 18, I spent the rest of the day on a cloud. Hours and hours later, I was still telling my husband, "Hey. GUESS what size these jeans are!" 


Last summer I had finally lost enough weight to where I felt comfortable wearing my first pair of short fashion (i.e., not athletic) shorts in years. I wore them to a boat party and I felt fantastic in them--not the least bit self-conscious. At that party, I also experienced a huge change in the way certain friends of my husband treated me. Where they had formerly ignored or ridiculed me, they now accepted me. It's a sick fact of life that an overweight woman can't always expect respect and civility from a man she's not related to or sleeping with. In fact, if you're at all interested in this issue, I suggest watching this video.

The first 5K I ever signed up for was the Warrior Dash. It was my motivation for doing the C25K program. I remember standing in the beer tent and watching the results, and then being so proud of myself for finishing in under 42 minutes (and running the entire thing). I had to check that number a few times to believe I'd done it!


I don't think it will be easy to top the high I felt coming in from my first 7-mile run. It was a huge mental hurdle for me and I finally felt like a real runner. And a bad-ass cold weather runner! Not even my fist half marathon made me feel so triumphant!

When we went snowboarding this winter, I found that I could go for so much longer without that excess weight! I had very little trouble getting up from a fall and I felt way more comfortable riding fast now that I had more control over my own body!



A few weeks ago, we went to a friend's cabin. For the first time, I was strong enough and light enough to jump up from the lake onto their floating inflatable island with no assistance and no awkward wriggling. That was such a relief!

Finally, I'll never forget the night right after I hit my goal of weighing less than my husband when my sister came over with her camera. I had been telling Pete for months that when I weighed less than him, I'd make him carry me all over our house all the time. I asked him to pick me up so we could document this milestone. After one picture, he started twirling me around our living room and dipping me, like I weighed nothing at all. I felt ecstatic!

In fact, it was such a happy memory, that I used those pictures for the button on my blog!

Why Frozen Diet Meals SUCK: Elle Noel Favorite Series

Good morning and Happy Wednesday!  Today marks Part 3 of the Elle Noel favorites series! This morning I want to introduce you to Jennifer. I enjoy reading her blog each day for my own personal motivation. Jennifer can describe the battle of the bludge with all the success, joy, and sometimes setback that comes with it,in such a way that has you saying out loud Oh em gee ME TOO!!! She often offers up a new perspective that has me rethinking my own struggles with new ways to approach food and fitness. I LOVE her blog, and I know you will too!


Hello Elle Noel readers! I am Jennifer and I blog over at FatChick2FitChick. I was thrilled when Mrs. Noel herself, asked me to write up a guest post for her blog. I have been reading her blog and following her on Instagram not too long after she started blogging. I love her and her blog because she is so motivating, but mainly because she is so kind and supportive. She truly offers a judgement free zone. With a million and 1 ways to try to lose weight and get healthy and fit out there, there is simply not a one size fits all. I am not going to tell you anything you are doing is wrong. I am going to tell you how I finally conquered
for the most partthe diet yo-yo. Point blank, diets suck. Feeling hungry suckssssssssss! Seeing things like this

Only causes more stress and confusion about what to eat, how much to eat, and when to eat it. I have seriously tried every diet known to man. I have tried to live off of Lean Cuisines and Healthy Choice meals, only to be crazy hungry by dinner time and go ape crap crazy eating that night. This constant ebb and flow of hunger and over eating is what led to me weighing in at 332 lbs when I finally had enough. If you over eat a lot, you will have to endure some hunger early on to help your body adjust to a more normal portion size. The good news is that you do not have to stay hungry. You can lose weight and feel sated. I always say sated or satisfied and I never say full. Full equals over-eating to me. I want to feel comfortably sated after a meal, not weighted down and miserable. The way I keep calories under control and not become a starving huddled mess is that eat real food. The less processing that goes into what you eat, the more nutrient dense that food is going to be. When your body is being nourished and given adequate calories, you are not hungry. You do not have a physical need to over eat (although a mental one may exist *raises hand*). Let's compare my lunch from last week with one of those frozen "diet" meals.

Ingredients: 4 ounces of grilled chicken breast 1/2 cup of brown rice sweet potatoes squash green and red bell peppers onion olive oil This dish is about 16 ounces. That's a big bowl of goodness!
415 calories 10 grams of fat 30 grams of protein and 49 grams of carbs

Now let's look at a similar meal from a frozen entree.
3731-honey-glazed-turkey-and-sweet-potatoes

Ingredients:
Sweet Potatoes, Water, Green Beans, Cooked Turkey Medallions (Turkey Breast, Water, Isolated Soy Protein Product [Isolated Soy Protein, Modified Food Starch, Starch, Carrageenan, Soy Lecithin], Olive Oil, Chicken Broth Powder [Maltodextrin, Chicken Broth, Salt, Flavors], Dextrose, Salt, Potassium Chloride, Potassium and Sodium Phosphates, Spice Extract), Cooked Wild Rice, Honey Granules (Syrup, Honey), Diced Onions, Contains 2% or Less of: Brown Sugar, Chicken Base (Chicken Meat, and Natural Chicken Juices, Salt, Chicken Fat, Sugar, Hydrolyzed [Corn and Wheat Gluten, Soy] Protein, Dried Whey, Maltodextrin, Yeast Extract, Natural Flavoring, Disodium Inosinate and Disodium Guanylate, Natural Extractives of Turmeric and Annatto), Modified Corn Starch, Vinegar, Sea Salt, Black Pepper, Xanthan Gum.
This dinner is 10 ounces of food.
250 calories 2 grams of fat 14g of protein and 43 carbohydrates
Here are my two cents comparing these two meals:
  • Ingredients. While the Healthy Choice meal has a less offensive list than a lot of frozen meals that I have seen, I still prefer fewer ingredients, ones that I can pronounce, and ones that I don't need a Chemistry degree or Google to know what it is.
  • Calories. They average out to around 25-26 per ounce for both meals. I just ate about double the amount of food that is included with the HC meal.
  • Fat. This is quite a bit less in the HC meal, but the fats in my meal are part of what helps keep me feeling satisfied. Your body needs fat.
  • Protein. This is about ounce for ounce the same just like the calories. I just get more meat with with my meal and it is not a processed meat with additives.
  • Carbohydrates. My meal has less carbs per ounce. If you were to eat the same amount of the HC meal as my meal the carbs would be 68 for the HC meal and 49 for mine.
  • Taste. I have not had this particular HC meal, but I have had my fair share of these types of meals over the years. I would put my meal up against any of those frozen dinners in a taste test any day of the week.
The additives aside, the frozen diet meals are mostly "diet" because of decreased portions. Portions that too small to prevent some major hunger in the afternoon and dinner time. If you are at all like me, when I get to that point in my day, I am much more likely to opt for take out food and over eat. After that it is hard to stop that locomotive and not keep snacking until you finally roll yourself to bed. No judgement here. I just want you all to know that you can lose weight and not be hungry all the time. There is a way out of that cycle of hunger and over indulgence. It starts with feeding your body good whole foods and enough of them to nourish your body. This took a while for my husband and I to figure out, but I am so thankful that we did. Neither of us has maintained a weight loss, or healthy lifestyle for more than a few weeks before. We have been chugging away and tweaking our eating along the way for over a year now. We finally feel like we have found our stride...that is sustainable, healthy, and includes balanced portions of delicious and nutritious foods. The journey is never perfect and it is never without struggle, but it always about continuously working to be our healthiest and happiest selves.

Fit Pregnancy: Elle Noel Favorite Series

It's round two of the Elle Noel favorite blogger's series. I'm very excited to share one of my all time favorite bloggers with ya'll today. Jess Allen of the Blonde Ponytail is a HUGE inspiration to me personally, and I'm honored she agreed to occupy my space here today! 

Jess is an athlete training for a lifetime of fitness who just gave birth to her first child. I was a reader prior to her pregnancy (hello fit-tastic work out & nutritional ideas) and have thoroughly enjoyed reading about her outlook on pregnancy and postpartum recovery, as this will be the next big chapter in my life as well! It's never to early to start learning! Pregnancy and motherhood is a popular subject round these part so I know ya'll are gonna lover her too! 


Greetings Elle Noel readers!  I wrote this post when I was 33 weeks pregnant and expecting our first child in early June. Now, I am a month post partum with a healthy baby girl!


I’m a personal trainer and group fitness instructor, so it’s been important that I continue to exercise while I’m pregnant—it’s my job!  I truly believe exercise has contributed to a, dare I say, enjoyable pregnancy thus far.  I haven’t experienced the nausea, swelling, or insomnia that can accompany pregnancy. Fingers crossed it’s like that for the rest of the time!


We can be our own worst critics, so be kind with your self-talk as your body is changing. I have to remind myself of this on a daily basis.

Reminders to My Pregnant Self:
1. This is not just extra weight.
I’m heavier now which makes every exercise I do more difficult. Why do you think weighted vests are popular with sports conditioning? But, this is not just weight…it’s a human being!  Your body is working hard to support that life inside, and that is work in itself. So, when fatigue hits you earlier in a workout than before, don’t beat yourself up. Do what you can.
2. Know thyself.
You are pregnant, not dead.  If you have been active, stay active. Keep running, walking, strength training, cycling all with your doctor’s consent of course.  Unfortunately, there still isn’t a ton of information out there that dictates what we can and can’t do. The guideline of keeping heart rate below 140 bpm has been outdated for decades. The best piece of advice is to listen to your body. If it feels good keep going. If you’re uncomfortable, stop.
3. Reassess your standards.
Prior to becoming pregnant, I was in the best shape I had been in years. So, even if I can’t see the work I’m putting in through more defined abs and arms, I know exercising is better for me and baby–now and post-delivery. There are muscles under there somewhere…right?
4. You are working just as hard.
While I may not be able to do some of the exercises I used to or at the pace I once did, I’m working every bit as hard now. Remember No. 1? That’s a pretty big deal! Do what you can and listen to your body.
5. Be a role model.
Many of my clients and class participants have told me how they wished they would have exercised while pregnant. They encourage me to keep going. That in itself is all the motivation I need. Show others being active and pregnant is the norm, not the exception.

Fitness & Family- Introducing the PG Sisters: Elle Noel Favorites Series

Good morning and Happy Monday! I'm off beach bumming with my husband and bff's this week, keeping you updated on Instagram as always! In my place, I've asked a few of my all time favorite bloggers, and personal daily reads, to fill in for me!

First up are the PG Sisters, Kristie and Kara! Kristie and Kara are sisters who share their blog and alternate writing posts. I enjoy reading about their work outs, meal ideas, and how they cope with every day shenanigans that is real life! They always have a fun spin and positive outlook, both of which are my two favorite things! You may remember that Kara and I actually got to meet in real life at the end of April. It was my first blate - bloggers date- and I definitely feel I have made myself a real life friend through this crazy little thing called the internet! I am pulling out all the stops to try and make it back to Indiana in September to run the Fort Wayne half with them! I read their blog daily for inspiration of my own and I KNOW you're gonna love them! Take it away ladies!


Hey there Elle Noel fans...or as we call her, Gisele Noel because she is a supermodel in our eyes! While Leigh Ann is off sipping vodka/tonics under the sun,  having crazy dance parties (yes it counts as a workout), and turning from Diva Status to Beach Bum Status, the PG sisters are guest posting so you all don't miss her too much!

A little bit about us...we are two sisters from the Midwest who started a blog to write about training for our first half marathon. We kicked that goal in the ass, and now are sticking around in blogland cause we met some cool people (like Elle herself) and we love it!

One of the unique things about our blog, since we share it, is that we share embarrassing stories from growing up and make fun of each other. So in true PG fashion, we are going to share the story of one of our first fitness experiences.....

About 15 years ago, it was a crisp fall day and our Dad was arranging bales of hay out in our backyard for his annual hayride when he got a BRILLIANT idea! We should totally play football on top of the bales of hay! And if you touch the ground, you're grounded with no allowance! Yes, this is an exaggeration (we didn't get an allowance), but you get the gist. So we divide into teams (Dad and the four siblings) and start playing. I don't remember all the details except us girls whined a lot and it was very hay-ey.

Then, all of the sudden, a SUPER exciting play happens. Kristie intercepts the football and starts running towards the endhayzone. Our Dad gets all excited that she is showing some real sportsmanlike talent and forgets he is a grown man.....and proceeds to TACKLE her like she is a 250-lb. linebacker. Next thing we know, "Bale of Hay Football" is over and Dad is carrying Kristie up to the house on account of her sprained ankle. Dad didn't realize he picked the heaviest of the 4 of us so Kristie is at her current 31 year old weight at a mere 12 years old. Dad ended up being the only one to get a workout in that day! FYI, we didn't take trips to the emergency room unless the injury was death, so it was Rest-Ice-Compression-Elevation for poor Kristie. And we all learned that foosball is the devil!

This is probably the very same reason that we were never into "real sports". We'll end this story with another throwback picture.....check out our sweet rompers!

Heat + Running & Charly and Company Give Away

Happy Friday!!! We made it! I literally just came off the road from another hot, humid, summer run, and let me tell ya, this South Louisiana weather is no joke! My outdoor pace is suffering because of it. That's ok though, because I have been getting after it in doors when the heat just won't allow. I moved up my "weekend run" for half marathon training round two, to Friday, as we're about to head off to hit the beach! Don't worry, there's lots going on next week, and you do not want to miss out!

This morning, I had a 5k run on the schedule, I actually ran further on the treadmill yesterday, but I wanted to get out and hit the road this morning! The weather has been playing a major factor in my run times lately Hot, humid air are not the best conditions for running! This run was tough, and the last mile got really, really slow (for me), but I finished! Stay hydrated, keee yawww it's smokin out there!

When I'm running a really difficult run, I always remind myself of a few different things.
  1. I could feel like a ton of lead bricks because I'm tired. Did I work out extra hard this week? What exercises did I do the day previously? A leg day should NEVER be followed up with a run day.
  2. It's just a training run, complete the mileage. This is not a race. Chill home girl.
  3. One foot in front of the other, you're going to get there. One step at a time.
  4. Summer runs suck. Just get over it already!
One of my Sole Sistas  (thanks lady!) shared this information with me, which explains why some summer runs (all runs in general) ,I feel like I'm flying, and others, like the run I just had, I feel like a block of lead bricks.

Stay hydrated and safe out there peeps! Don't beat yourself up if you're moving slower than normal, you're beating everyone on the couch ;)

If I had one extra hour in the day... I'd catch up on the house work I've been neglecting  It's a casualty when work and gym come first!



I wish my name... When I was younger I asked my Mom why she didn't give me a real classy name, (she loved that- way to go little Leigh Ann insulting your Momma's name choices!) one with three plus syllables. Like Anastasia or Persaeus. Obviously, those names are the most sophisticated. I've always been full of cra-zay ideas!

I think anything chevron is... My first though will always be the Oil & Gas Company, South Louisiana says heyyyy


My last nightmare... I was running on the treadmill at a full sprint. I tripped over my own feet busted my knee and couldn't work out for a year. I gained so much weight I no longer recognized myself.......

 Phew this is a sickness ya'll!

Sometimes... I daydream about being a Housewife


My last meal on earth would be... Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, with a side of Texas Sized Toast all from Lambert's Cafe in Foley, Al

I would much rather.... clean my entire house, do yard work all day, wash cars, all by myself, than clean the bathroom. I barter all of my household chores in exchange for getting out of this one chore. I hate it!

Mayonnaise... is nasty. I didn't even like it when I was fat. Seriously.

10 years ago, I didn't think... Myspace would ever go away.  How could anyone not care about my 6 top friends or my intensely thought out profile song! It describes me! Helloooo!!!!

Selfishly... I am taking an extra day off of work and going to play in New Orleans with Susannah and Madeline ahead of our beach vacay. Thus, leaving Mr.Noel to drive to Florida without me. Sorry Hunny! (I'm not Sorry)

My favorite show on TV right now... House of Cards (Netflix), OR Naked and Afraid- it's strange, and intriguing, I can't stop watching! Don't judge me!

And, George Zimmerman...Who? 
Just kidding. I hope Kate has baby soon so we can start talking about that!

Frequently Asked Questions: Running, Overnight Oats & More Randomness

Huge thank you for all the support and well wishes in regards to my blogaversary post! WOWZA ya'll are seriously awesome! After posting yesterday, it came to my attention that it's been a while since I've done a frequently asked questions post and there's lots of new readers round here lately (Thanks Holly!)

If your name isn't Elle, how do you come up with the name Elle Noel?

In detailing how my blog came to be, I revealed something that was news to a lot of people, which surprised me! My name is not Elle. WHOA.

Elle Noel is a moniker I use as the title of this blog. The name came about as the area of Louisiana that I am from, has a large Cajun French speaking population. I'm from the heart of Cajun Country, where we are rich in Acadian culture. I have been taking French classes since fourth grade. My husband's grandparents were mainly french speaking. My friend Kate, that frequently talk about, and I actually met in an undergrad French class in college, etc. French, both the language and the culture, have always been a big part of my life.


Anywho, Elle very roughly translates to She/ Her in french. Additionally, my name is Leigh Ann so Elle also represents my first initial. Honestly, I didn't put a lot of thought into the title of my blog, it just sorta popped into my head and I rolled with it. Random factoid- I have a very close friend that we have always called Elle,  IRL (there's that phrase again) so now I call her The Real Elle. Ba dum CHA! I'll be here all day!

How did I first start to lose weight?

This question is always prevalent. In the beginning, I ate a lot of processed foods, ie Lean Cousine, 100 calorie snacks, pre-made foods, and strictly counted calories. That did work for a time! However, eventually I had to make the switch to careful meal planning and a balanced diet. When one method stopped working, I moved on to the next! I've had more set backs than I'd care to count, however I always picked myself back up and kept moving forward! Never give up on yourself. Treat each day as a singular effort. Have a great day, AWESOME! Have a bad day, that's ok, it was yesterday so now move forward!  Eventually...this happened:

What's one exercise that you get the most results from?

RUNNING! When I started to run, my entire body composition changed. Running is the only activity that produces the results I desire. A lot of things started to happened when I began running, mainly I fell in love with running. I didn't love to run in the beginning. I actually hated it. Prior to Fall of 2012, I always thought I couldn't run. Flat feet, bad genetics, any excuse I could think of- running was NOT for me. People who liked to run were clinically insane as far as I was concerned.

How did you start running?

I didn't wake up one random morning and completely change my thought process. I didn't go out and purchase running shoes. I didn't have a running Ap. I thought Garmin only made a GPS system to stick on the dash. I didn't have a clue what fueling for a run meant? I just started doing it. I started running because I wanted to lose weight. Period. I started running to and from my gym to work out. 1.5 miles round trip. I wore my old nasty yard shoes. I carried a bottle of water. I frequently had to walk. I thought I was going to die. I hated every second of it. But I kept doing it. Best thing I have ever done for myself was to start running. Eventually, I began running two miles on Sundays because my gym was closed. Then I transitioned to challenging myself on the treadmill. I didn't fall in love with running, until I began training for a race. Training gave running purpose, other than I want to lose Weight.  Now I run because I enjoy challenging myself, and I can't get enough!

How tall are you?

I am 5'11 and 3/4 inches tall. I stand out in a crowd ;)

Over Night Oats: What are they, what kind of oats do you use, what does it taste like, how do you log....

Over night oats are simple. Don't make this complicated ya'll. Pick out what oats you want to eat. Presently, I use Quaker Minute Oats because Mr. Noel bought a box large enough to feed to the Duggars breakfast for a year. Thanks Sams. I'll be eating that for awhile. Any type of oat you choose will work just fine! The oats soak overnight which substitutes the "cooking" process. I soak mine in unsweetened almond milk and protein powder with half a banana slices. Sometimes I'll use Greek yogurt. Sometimes, I'll mix in peanut butter powder. Sometimes I'll use blueberries instead of banana. Endless possibilities! Get crazy! If I have a near empty peanut butter jar to overnight the oats in, I'm in heaven! To log the peanut butter, I simply estimate one serving into my day. This is a great early morning post run breakfast, or just cause you want it breakfast. These can be served cold or hot depending on your preference. I personally like them cold as it makes my breakfast seem more parfait like!
