Biking, Wine, Running, & a Big Bad Secret

Weekend Re-Cap!! It's been a busy but super fun one! I frequently commit myself to random activities without thinking twice. Ask me if I want to do something, if it sounds fun, and I'm available, I'll immediately say yes. This occasionally results in double booking and a continuous go go go weekend. I'm just sitting down at home and ahhh it feels great.

Friday after work, I got my cleaning done and ended up opening a bottle of red wine, sitting on our patio, and solving the world's problems with Mr. Noel. A highly enjoyable evening in. I love red wine during Fall. The two just go together. Well a bottle and a strong buzz later, I remember that I have to wake up early and RUN A 5K. Shat.

I'm about to out myself on a seriously nasty habit. My not so secret secret.

Let me start by saying, old habits die hard.

I used to be a full blown smoker, and I'm still in the process of kicking my habit.

Over the past 2 years, I've nearly, nearly, kicked my habit. I've never been a pack a day smoker but a solid 5 packs a week kinda gal. I've gotten myself to a point where I do not smoke. I do not buy cigarettes. I don't ever have a desire to smoke....unless I'm drinking. Some people refer to this as social smoking, but I do smoke when I drink. I'm working towards cutting it out all together, but it's hard for me to completely let go. Anywho, I smoked four cigarettes and drank a bottle of red wine Friday night. I don't understand how I can go without a cigarette for a month, have two glasses of wine, and need a cigarette. It is what it is. I know first hand, smoking and running do not mix.

After running the 5k last weekend some friends of mine asked me to run with them this Saturday. Yap, sign me up! The run benefited Maddie's Footprints which is an organization providing grief support to parents who have had a miscarriage or suffered the loss of an infant under a year of age. You can read more about the amazing work they are doing here.

I signed up ahead of time, and as much as I didn't want to run Saturday, I made myself. I was completely out of sorts. It was hell-a hot, no shade around the route, and I felt that bottle of wine and four cigarettes every. single. step. of. the. way.

My run was slow, and I forgot to turn off my ap but I finished at exactly 33 minutes. I wanted to beat my time from the previous run, but it was not meant to be. I still think it was worth the Chocolate Red Wine, but not the cigarettes.

After the run, I did some shopping, caught up on Gossip Girl, and we spent the evening with friends watching football, cooking, and hanging out. I got in some more red wine this time sans cigarettes. Baby steps. Amazing weekend!

Fast forward 7:00am Sunday:

Last week Kate asked me to ride an 8 mile bike ride with a group around town that we became associated with through our gym. Yes, sign me up! We asked Mr. Noel if he wanted to ride with us (last Tuesday!), he gave us the 'ol non committal, oh maybe, I'm not sure, It's only Tuesday I don't know what I want to do Sunday, I'll get back to you, probably not, Whoa way to put me on the spot, I think I may be doing laundry, let me check the football schedule response. Not a big deal, but Kate needed to borrow a bike from us, and if Mr. Noel was going to ride, we would have to borrow a third bike from my Mom. This is frequently how Mr. Noel likes to make plans, while I'm quick to jump on the planning ship, "Oh yeah, I'll be there! When is this happening? In six months. Ok, It's in my Outlook!"

Guess who decided they wanted to do the ride this morning. We had to go to my Mom's and steal a bike. Not a big deal, but it made for a busy and another early day. Oh and guess who got to ride with the bike in the back of Kate's SUV holding the too big bike in place, because someone else had to pre-register their last minute selves. Intentionally not naming names. (The bike group met up a half mile from our house so we rode there)

The bike ride was a ton of fun! They gave away some prizes, there was jambalaya, a Police escort (FANCY!), and a bunch of people out bright and early this morning!

Pre-run photo shoot fun with the Kate and the Noels..

I feel like this picture is a more adequate representation of our relationship. There's always something funny happening, oh and maybe just maybe if I loud cap him this way, he'll stop making me do the last minute non committal rush! Oh but probably not, I just asked him if he wanted to go see Taken 2 with me tonight, oh lemme see who is playing (football), what time is dinner going to be ready, I may be really full, let's just wait and see....

I don't know why he's making that face, but it's too funny not to share.

Another great weekend in the books! This weekend's diet cheating was no where near the level that last week was. I did eat three halves of a cookie and crackers on Saturday night. What was supposed to be no carb day, but it happens I ain't perfect!

Talk at ya'll tomorrow! I've got Skinny Ribs in the crock pot and a date with Gossip Girl, I just discovered this show on Netfilx. Marathon Time!

Hope you're having a great Sunday! What have you been up to this weekend??

  2. oh my gosh I was dying of laughter with your description of your husband's non-commital response...I do the same thing to my husband and I know it drives him nuts LOL for me it's not that I'm indecisive it's just more of a "let's see how I feel when that time comes."

I applaud you for quitting smoking!!! That is not an easy habit to quit, it's extremely difficult, and don't beat yourself up for when you have one (or a few). That's a lifelong change in itself to quit smoking. My husband quit a year and a half ago and I've watched how hard it can be...and I know you can totally do it, you're the boss lady remember?! :D

  3. I posted my "Big bad secret" post today, too. Kudos to us for being ballsy enough to tell the whole world. ;) I think your post definitely ended up funnier than mine though!

  4. Good for you for trying to kick that social habit. I have never been a smoker, but there is something real appealing about it after a few beers-- so no judgement. And look at you for kicking ass this weekend with a run and an 8 mile bike ride!

    Cheers to a good week!!

  5. You crack me up. Proud of you for getting up and running that 5K anyway--I totally would've called in "sick" and rolled back over in bed. You're a champ! I'm headed to catch up on your blog for the past few days...I've been so MIA!

  6. I just heard about chocolate wine for the first time this weekend! I had no idea such a thing existed!

Sounds like you made the best use of your time! I love a crazy-packed weekend, but when Monday night rolls around, I'm always VERY glad it's just me and my Mr. :)

  7. Are you paying more than $5 / pack of cigarettes? I'm buying my cigs over at Duty Free Depot and I'm saving over 60%.
